Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites to fall concerts

The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and its artistic director and chief conductor Guntis Kuzma are announcing the concerts of the next fall season in the “Lielais dzintars” Concert Hall, which will feature special guests like the conductors Christian Lindberg and Andris Poga, and pianist Vestards Šimkus. Some premieres are also on the list.

At the opening of the 144th concert season on 14 September the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites the audience to an emotionally saturated concert, where the aesthetics of romanticism will be expressed in colorful orchestration and melodic themes.

This time, the extravagant Swedish conductor and trombonist Christian Lindberg, whom the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra has already worked with at the Liepaja International Star Festival in 2023, will take his place at the conductor's desk.

In turn, Guntis Kuzma, the chief conductor and artistic director of the Orchestra, at the season opening concert will take the stage as a soloist in John Corigliano's dazzling Clarinet Concerto, which is a virtuoso, colorful composition combining neoclassical style with romantic melodies and dynamic rhythms, highlighting the clarinet as a solo instrument.

The season opening programme also includes the Symphony No.5 by the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, which is considered one of the most significant symphonies in world music of the 20th century.

Latvian symphonic music holds a prominent place in the next concert season. At the opening concert the composition “Vientuļā priede” (“The Lonely Pine Tree”) by Andris Dzenītis, which is made from the bits and pieces of Emīls Dārziņš’ lost symphonic work, will be premiered.

On 30 November, under the sign of composer’s 60th anniversary, the Symphony No.3 by Rihards Dubra will be premiered. The programme will be enriched with the Piano Concerto in Modo Misolidio by Ottorino Respighi, the great master of colors of the Italian orchestra, which will be performed by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra accompanied by the audience's favored pianist Vestards Šimkus.

Liepāja Symphony Orchestra's season ticket includes three concerts taking place in the “Lielais dzintars” Concert Hall, while the programme of the concert scheduled for 28 October, where Andris Poga will take the place at the conductor's desk, will be announced separately.
